Summary

About the place: Horky nad Jizerou is a municipality in the Mladá Boleslav District of the Central Bohemian Region, situated on the right bank of the Jizera River approximately 7 km southwest of Benátky nad Jizerou. The settlement is characterised by an elevated ridge dominated by a Baroque chateau and the pilgrimage Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and Saint Nicholas.

Flag Description: The flag consists of three horizontal stripes of blue, white, and blue in a ratio of 3 : 2 : 3. Three green hilltops issue from the bottom blue stripe into the white stripe, touching its upper edge. The blue stripes feature yellow charges: in the upper hoist a crown set with red gems, in the lower hoist a cross pattée, in the upper fly a six-pointed star, and in the lower fly a roundel (ball). The width-to-length ratio of the flag is 2 : 3.

Symbolism: The green triple hills serve as canting arms alluding to the name of the municipality ('horky' meaning hills), while the white stripe and blue fields represent the Jizera River. The golden crown refers to the ornate lantern cupola of the local Baroque pilgrimage chapel, the yellow roundel (ball) represents the attribute of Saint Nicholas (patron saint of the local church), and the cross pattée along with the six-pointed star evoke Christian heritage, divine guidance, and spiritual hope. The symbols were designed by heraldist Zdeněk Kubík.
