Summary

About the place: Horní Benešov (German: Bennisch) is a historic mining town located in Bruntál District within the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic, situated in the Nízký Jeseník mountain range. Historically part of Czech Silesia, it is renowned for its centuries-long tradition of silver, ore, and slate mining.

Flag Description: The flag is vertically divided; the yellow hoist part features a half black Silesian eagle with red armament adjacent to the red fly part, which charges two white mining picks with brown handles placed diagonally one below the other. The width-to-length ratio is 2:3.

Symbolism: The flag is derived from the historic municipal coat of arms. The yellow field charged with the half black eagle represents the town's historical allegiance to Czech Silesia (and the Duchy of Troppau). The two mining picks in the red fly field directly commemorate the town's prominent mining heritage and the extraction of silver, polymetallic ores, and slate, which defined its identity and earned it the prefix 'Horní' (Upper/Mining).
