Summary
About the place: Horní Lideč is a municipality and village in Vsetín District within the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic, situated at the boundary between the Javorníky and White Carpathians mountain ranges near the Slovak border. The village is an important regional railway junction and a Wallachian cultural center known for its mechanized wooden Nativity scene.
Flag Description: The flag consists of three vertical stripes: white, green, and white. In the hoist-side white stripe is the black St. Wenceslaus eagle with red flames, and in the fly-side white stripe is a green eradicated deciduous tree. The height of both the eagle and the tree is equal to half the width of the flag. The ratio of width to length is 2:3.
Symbolism: The black eagle with red flames (the St. Wenceslaus or Přemyslid flammant eagle) refers to Saint Wenceslaus, the patron saint of the local parish church consecrated in 1994 as well as of Czech statehood. The eradicated deciduous tree symbolizes the heavily forested landscape of Wallachia and its historical settlement through woodland clearance. The green central stripe highlights the natural environment of the region.
