Summary
About the place: Horšovský Týn (German: Bischofteinitz) is a historic town in Domažlice District in the Plzeň Region of western Czechia, situated along the Radbuza River. The town is renowned for its expansive castle-château complex and well-preserved historic core, designated as an urban monument reservation.
Flag Description: A blue field with a quartered red-white-white-black hoist stripe occupying one-fourth of the fly length. In the blue fly field are two freestanding white castles, each featuring an expanded base and an open black rusticated gateway flanked above by two windows. Above the gateway is a cornice surmounted by three conjoined towers (the central one larger), each with a window and a red tent roof. All windows are black and arched. The ratio of width to length is 2:3.
Symbolism: The flag (granted in 2018) is derived directly from the town's historical coat of arms, which was augmented in 1546 by Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I. The two white castles on the blue field represent the town's ancient fortifications and castle. The hoist stripe quartered in red, white, and black incorporates the heraldic elements and colours of the noble House of Lobkowicz (notably the red-silver division and the black eagle), who owned the domain in the 16th century.
