Summary
About the place: Hovězí is a municipality in the Vsetín District of the Zlín Region, situated along the Vsetínská Bečva river at the foot of the Hostýn-Vsetín Mountains and the Javorníky range. It is a traditional Moravian Wallachian village with rich history and cultural heritage.
Flag Description: The flag consists of two vertical stripes of blue and red, over which lies a white horizontal stripe issuing from the ninth tenth of the hoist and fly edges. In the center is a white recumbent cow with yellow attires (horns and hooves), facing the fly edge. In the upper hoist and fly corners are two white fortress bastions side by side. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is 2:3.
Symbolism: The white cow is a canting charge representing the name of the municipality and the region's historic cattle pastoralism. The four fortress bastions commemorate the historical border-guard duties of the local inhabitants (Wallachian portashi) defending the Moravian-Hungarian frontier. The white stripe (representing the wavy base of the coat of arms) symbolizes the Vsetínská Bečva river. Blue and red reflect traditional regional and heraldic colors.
