Summary

About the place: Hradec nad Svitavou (historically German: Greifendorf) is a village and municipality in the Svitavy District within the Pardubice Region, situated along the Svitava River directly south of the town of Svitavy. Historically a forest-strip village (Waldhufendorf), it lies in the traditional Schönhengstgau region near the historical border between Bohemia and Moravia.

Flag Description: The flag consists of three vertical stripes: white, embattled/crenellated green with three square merlons and four equal embrasures, and yellow (in a width ratio of 2 : 5 : 1). In the green stripe is a white double-tailed griffin with red armed and langued and a yellow tongue. The width-to-length ratio is 2 : 3.

Symbolism: The double-tailed griffin serves as a canting charge referencing the municipality's historical German name Greifendorf ("village of the griffin") and its historical municipal seals from the 17th century, while the double tail reflects Czech heraldic tradition. The embattled line of the green stripe represents castle battlements, which in the municipal coat of arms forms a canting charge for the Czech name Hradec (fortress/castle). The green color evokes the surrounding landscape and forests, while white and yellow derive from the tinctures of the coat of arms.
