Summary

About the place: Hrádek (Polish: Gródek) is a village and municipality in the Frýdek-Místek District of the Moravian-Silesian Region, situated along the Olza River in historical Cieszyn Silesia. It is notable for having a significant Polish national minority and for the historical remains of an early medieval border stronghold.

Flag Description: Hrádek (Frýdek-Místek District, Moravian-Silesian Region) – The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, blue and yellow in a 5:3 width ratio, separated by an embattled line with three square merlons and two embrasures (the height of the merlons equals one-eighth of the hoist width). Centered in the upper blue stripe is a yellow wagon whippletree with two singletrees (whiffletrees). The flag ratio is 2:3.

Symbolism: The embattled line of division acts as canting heraldry for the municipality's name (Hrádek meaning 'little castle' or 'small fort'), referencing the medieval border watchtower fortress. The wagon whippletree with two singletrees originates from the 19th-century municipal seal. The blue and yellow colors reflect the historical heraldic tinctures of the Duchy of Teschen (Cieszyn).
