Summary
About the place: Hrádek (frequently known as Hrádek u Nechanic) is a small rural municipality in the Hradec Králové District within the Hradec Králové Region, located roughly 11 km west of Hradec Králové. It lies in the low-lying agricultural landscape of the East Elbe Table, situated right next to the English landscape park of the romantic Neo-Gothic chateau Hrádek u Nechanic.
Flag Description: The flag consists of three vertical stripes of white, blue, and yellow-black chequy (8 rows by 3 columns) in a width ratio of 1:2:1. In the hoist-side white stripe is a centered red cross (St. George's cross) whose arms have a width of one-twelfth of the flag's length. The central blue stripe features a white masoned castle consisting of two embattled towers, each with a single black loophole, connected by an open gateway with a raised black portcullis. The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 2:3.
Symbolism: The white castle in the blue stripe is a canting element referencing the name of the municipality ('small castle/stronghold') and recalling the medieval fortress of the knights Bořek of Hrádek. The red cross in the white stripe (St. George's cross) represents Saint George, the patron saint of the local baroque church. The yellow and black checkering in the fly stripe reflects the heraldic colours and arms of the historic feudal lords and owners of the estate.
