Summary
About the place: Hrádek (historically Erdberg) is a South Moravian municipality located in the Znojmo District within the Dyje–Svratka Valley, close to the Austrian border. The settlement has deep roots dating back to the 11th century as a former market town, known for its parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul with the Romanesque Rotunda of Saint Ulrich.
Flag Description: The flag consists of a yellow hoist stripe occupying one-fourth of the flag's length, embattled with four square merlons and three equal embrasures, and a blue fly field. On the blue field is a white goose with yellow armament (beak and legs), accompanied in the upper fly half by a yellow Gothic key bendwise, wards downwards and pointing to the fly edge, diagonally underpinned by a white sword bendwise sinister pointing downwards with a yellow hilt. The width-to-length ratio is 2:3.
Symbolism: The embattled yellow stripe represents a battlemented fortress wall, recalling Hrádek's historical status as a fortified market town. The white goose with yellow armament is derived from the municipality's historical seal dating back to the 18th century. The crossed key and sword are the traditional attributes of Saints Peter and Paul, the patrons of the local parish church. The blue and gold color scheme matches the municipal coat of arms.
