Summary

About the place: Hrubá Skála is a picturesque municipality in Semily District, Liberec Region, located at the heart of the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj) Protected Landscape Area. It is best known for its romantic clifftop chateau perched on sandstone rock formations and the surrounding rock city.

Flag Description: The flag consists of three horizontal stripes of yellow, blue, and yellow in a width ratio of 1 : 6 : 1. In the central blue stripe stands a white tower with an ashlar base, embattlements, an arched window, and a red tented roof, flanked by two inwards-facing wings: a yellow wing towards the hoist and a diagonally divided white-and-black wing towards the fly. The ratio of the flag is 2 : 3.

Symbolism: The white tower in the blue field symbolizes the municipality's primary landmark – Hrubá Skála Chateau perched atop sandstone rock pinnacles. The two wings represent the prominent noble dynasties that historically held the estate: the yellow wing alludes to the House of Wallenstein (Waldstein), while the diagonally divided white-and-black wing refers to the Smiřický of Smiřice family.
