Summary

Illar is a municipality in Almería province, Andalusia, Spain, situated near the Andarax River between the Sierra de Gárod and Sierra Nevada. The town originated in the 12th‑century, named by geographer Idrisi, and formed part of the Marchena taha under the al‑Nayar family. It was conquered by Christian forces in 1489 and later developed a grape‑cultivation economy until the 1930s drought and civil war.
