Summary
About the place: Jaroměř is a historic town in Náchod District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic, situated at the confluence of the Elbe, Úpa, and Metuje rivers. It is widely renowned for the adjacent 18th-century military fortress town of Josefov.
Flag Description: A red field with three hoist-based piles (wedges), each having a base equal to one-third of the hoist width. The central white pile points to the midpoint of the fly edge, while the upper and lower yellow piles extend to two-thirds of the flag's length. The aspect ratio is 2:3.
Symbolism: The flag colors (red, white/silver, and yellow/gold) are derived from the historic coat of arms, which features a silver lioness with gold armament enclosed in a golden crown of thorns on a red shield. This unusual charge was imposed on the town in 1444 by dowager Queen Barbara of Cilli following a burgher rebellion. The wedge design also alludes to the confluence of three rivers meeting in the town and the pointed bastions of the Josefov fortress.
