Summary

About the place: Juazeiro is a Brazilian municipality located in the north of the state of Bahia, on the right bank of the São Francisco River. Together with its sister city Petrolina, it forms a major urban and agricultural hub in the semi-arid Sertão region.

Flag Description: The flag of Juazeiro consists of a white field with the municipal coat of arms centered upon it. The shield is divided diagonally: the upper left section (viewer's perspective) is dark blue featuring the Southern Cross constellation and an additional larger white star below it, while the lower right section depicts a traditional sailing boat on water beneath a blue sky with birds. Above the shield rests a red Phrygian cap topped by an arched scroll reading 'MUNICÍPIO DE JUAZEIRO'. The shield is flanked by plant stalks (green on the left and yellow on the right) and rests above a white ribbon bearing the Latin motto 'AMOR LABORE OMNIA VINCIT'.

Symbolism: The white background represents peace and purity. The Southern Cross symbolizes the geographic location in Brazil and the Southern Hemisphere, while the boat on the river references historical river navigation and the vital role of the São Francisco River in the municipality's development. The Phrygian cap is a traditional symbol of freedom and republican ideals. The Latin motto 'AMOR LABORE OMNIA VINCIT' reflects the principle that love and labor conquer all things.
