Summary
About the place: Kalek (German: Kallich) is a mountain border municipality in Chomutov District, Ústí nad Labem Region, situated on the ridge of the Ore Mountains along the border with Saxony.
Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal stripes, white and green, in a ratio of 4 : 1. Issuing from the second to eleventh twelfths of the upper edge of the green stripe is a green triple mount charged with three yellow crossed forged nails pointing toward the bottom edge of the flag. Growing from the higher central peak is a bog cranberry of natural color. The width-to-length ratio of the flag is 2 : 3.
Symbolism: The white (silver) field refers to the etymology of the name Kalek, derived from lime (chalk/Kalk). The green triple mount represents both the surrounding Ore Mountains landscape and the municipality's three parts (Kalek, Načetín, Jindřichova Ves). The three crossed forged nails symbolize the historical ironworks and traditional nail manufacturing. The bog cranberry reflects the characteristic peat bog flora of the area; its three developmental stages (flower, ripening fruit, and ripe fruit) represent the past, present, and future generations.
