About the place: Kaufbeuren is an independent city in the Swabia administrative region of Bavaria, Germany. It is located on the Wertach River at the edge of the Allgäu region.
Flag Description: The flag consists of a horizontal bicolour of red over yellow with a ratio of 3:5. In the centre is the city's coat of arms. The shield is divided vertically: on the left (heraldic dexter), in a yellow field, is half of a black imperial eagle facing the centre line; on the right (heraldic sinister), in a red field, is a yellow bend accompanied by two yellow six-pointed stars, one above and one below the bend.
Symbolism: The flag colors (red and yellow) are derived from the primary tinctures of the city's coat of arms. The half imperial eagle on the left side represents Kaufbeuren's historical status as a Free Imperial City. The right side featuring a yellow bend and two stars in a red field stems from the ancient arms of the noble family of Kaufbeuren.
