Koknese is a town in Latvia, situated on the Daugava River in the Vidzeme region. Originally a Latgalian settlement named Kukenois, it came under the influence of the Principality of Polotsk in the 12th century. The town flourished during the 14th century as a member of the Hanseatic League.
