Summary

Kopys is an urban-type settlement located in the Orsha District of Belarus' Vitebsk Region. First mentioned in 1059, it historically belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and later the Polish-Lithuanian Union. The town was once a private holding of prominent families like the Ostrogski and Radziwiłłs, and suffered destruction during the Great Northern War in 1707.
