Kretinga

Kretinga is a city in Klaipėda County, north‑western Lithuania, situated 12 km east of the Baltic Sea resort Palanga and 21 km north of the port city Klaipėda. First recorded in 1253 as the castle of Cretyn, it received Magdeburg rights in 1609 and became a centre of religious and educational activity. The town suffered damage during the Swedish wars of the 17th century but revived in the 19th century under Russian rule.
