Kursk is a city in Russia and the administrative center of Kursk Oblast, situated at the confluence of the Kur, Tuskar, and Seym rivers. First recorded in 1032 as part of Kievan Rus', it became a principality before falling under Lithuanian and then Moscow rule. The city was a crucial fortress against Crimean Tatar raids.
