Lahnstein is a town in the Rhein-Lahn-Kreis district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, situated at the confluence of the Lahn and Rhine rivers. Formed in 1969 by merging Oberlahnstein and Niederlahnstein, it historically served as a strategically important fortified location. Lahneck Castle, built in the 13th century, once housed the Archbishop-Electors of Mainz.
