Lavras is a municipality located in the southern part of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Founded in the early 18th century during the Brazilian gold rush, it originated as a settlement named Sant'Ana das Lavras do Funil around 1729. The area's name derives from the numerous gold mining excavations, known as 'lavras', present in the region.
