Summary
Leer is a town in East Frisia, Lower Saxony, situated on the Leda river near the Dutch border. Originally a settlement dating back to 3200 BC, it gained prominence with the construction of a chapel by Saint Ludger in 791 AD. The town flourished through trade with the Hanseatic League and hosts the annual Gallimarkt fair since 1508.
