Summary

About the place: Lindlar is a municipality in the Oberbergischer Kreis district in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located approximately 30 km east of Cologne. The area is well known for its scenic setting within the Bergisches Land Nature Park and its historical gray sandstone quarrying industry.

Flag Description: The flag of the municipality consists of two horizontal stripes, red over white, charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms. The coat of arms features a silver (white) shield displaying on the observer's right (heraldic sinister) a red rampant lion, crowned and armed gold, holding a golden key with its ward pointing to the observer's left (heraldic dexter). On the observer's left (heraldic dexter), a silver (white) sandstone cross stands atop a green hill.

Symbolism: The red and white colors of the flag, as well as the red lion, derive from the historic arms of the Counts and Dukes of Berg, who ruled the region for centuries. The golden key represents Saint Peter, the patron saint of the local parish church. The stone cross symbolizes both the deep religious heritage of the area and the traditional quarrying of local gray sandstone (Grauwacke).
