Lisbon

Lisbon, situated on the Tagus River, is Portugal's capital and most populous city. Founded by the Phoenicians as Olissipo, it later became a Roman municipium under Julius Caesar. Conquered by Afonso Henriques in 1147, Lisbon officially became the capital in 1255, succeeding Coimbra.
