Los Angeles

Los Angeles, founded in 1781 by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve, initially grew from the village of Yaanga. It became part of the US following the Mexican-American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. The discovery of oil in the 1890s and the completion of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913 spurred significant growth.
