Maastricht is a city and municipality in the southeastern Netherlands, serving as the capital of Limburg province. Situated on both sides of the Meuse river, it historically functioned as a crucial river trade and religious center. The city gained prominence through the Maastricht Treaty and is recognized as the birthplace of the euro.
