Summary

About the place: Mád is a village in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, located in northeastern Hungary. Situated in the renowned Tokaj wine region, it is celebrated for its rich winemaking tradition and cultural heritage.

Flag Description: The flag consists of a horizontal bicolour of two equal bands: red at the top and blue at the bottom. Positioned in the centre is the village's coat of arms with a golden border. On a silver shield, St. John the Baptist stands on a green base inscribed with 'MÁD', wearing a blue robe, a red cloak, and a halo. In his hand on the viewer's right, he holds a cross with a golden banner, while in his other hand he holds a chalice reached for by an angel atop a brown hill. The shield is flanked by green grapevine wreaths with leaves and grapes.

Symbolism: The red and blue colors of the flag stem from local traditions. The central figure of St. John the Baptist represents the patron saint of the village, while the surrounding grapevine wreath highlights Mád's location in the Tokaj wine region and its centuries-old winemaking heritage.
