Summary
Maebashi is the capital city of Gunma Prefecture, located in the northern Kantō region of Japan. Originally named Umayabashi during the Nara period due to a bridge and nearby stable, it officially became Maebashi in 1649. The city hosted the 1999 IAAF World Indoor Championships and was designated a special city in 2001.
