Martin, Slovakia

Martin is a city in northern Slovakia, situated on the Turiec river, between the Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra mountains. Historically part of the Kingdom of Hungary since the 10th century, it was first mentioned in 1284 as Vila Sancti Martini. Today, Martin serves as a cultural hub and the seat of the Slovak National Library.
