Maryville, Tennessee

Maryville serves as the county seat of Blount County, Tennessee, and was founded in 1795, named after Mary Grainger Blount. The area was historically inhabited by the Cherokee, with a village named Elajay located near present-day Heritage High School. Sam Houston, a future Texan hero, briefly taught at a schoolhouse in Maryville before his military career.
