Medan

Medan serves as the capital and largest city of North Sumatra province in Indonesia. Founded at the confluence of the Deli and Babura rivers, it initially grew as Kampung Medan Putri under the Deli Sultanate established in 1632. The city flourished in the late 19th century due to Dutch colonial plantation development, particularly in tobacco.
