Mejillones is a Chilean port city located in the Antofagasta Region, 60 km north of Antofagasta. Historically, it was inhabited by the Chango people from 1825 and featured guano mining operations in the mid-19th century. The site of the naval combat of Punta Angamos, during the War of the Pacific, is nearby.
