Summary

About the place: Meldorf is a historic town in the Schleswig-Holstein state of Germany, located in the Dithmarschen district near the North Sea coast. It was traditionally the chief settlement and assembly place of the medieval independent peasant republic of Dithmarschen.

Flag Description: The flag is vertically divided into two halves. The hoist (left) side features a white field with a red castle with five towers standing on a green triple hill. Below, in the green base, there is a white wavy wave charged with five red six-pointed stars. The fly (right) side is horizontally divided into a top green field and a bottom white field. The height-to-width ratio is 3:5.

Symbolism: The red castle on a green triple hill represents the historic fortification and town status of Meldorf. The wavy bar symbolizes the Miele River, while the five red stars refer to the five historical parishes (Kirchspiele) of ancient Dithmarschen. Green and white are the traditional colors of Dithmarschen.
