Summary

Merano is a municipality in South Tyrol, Italy, known for its spa resorts and mountainous surroundings. It originated as a Roman road station, Statio Maiensis, in 15 BC and became the capital of Tyrol in the 13th century. Despite losing its capital status in 1848, it remained a significant location during the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809.
