Summary

About the place: Modave is a French-speaking municipality in Belgium, located in the province of Liège within the Walloon Region. It is best known for its impressive baroque Château de Modave and its picturesque landscape in the Hoyoux river valley.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two vertical stripes, white on the hoist side (left side from the viewer's perspective) and blue on the fly side (right side). Centered on the dividing line between the stripes is the municipal coat of arms featuring a black outline and a pointed bottom. Inside the silver (white) shield is a blue rampant lion with bared claws and tongue.

Symbolism: The colors of the flag (white and blue) are derived from the traditional heraldic colors of the municipality. The blue lion on a silver field in the municipal coat of arms references the historical noble families associated with the Lords of Modave and the local lordship in the Condroz region.
