About the place: Möhnesee is a municipality in the district of Soest in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated around the Möhnesee reservoir on the edge of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park.

Flag Description: The flag of the municipality consists of two horizontal stripes, blue on top and white on the bottom, with an aspect ratio of 3:5. The shield is divided horizontally by a wavy line: the upper white field bears a black straight cross (Cologne cross), and the lower blue field features a white eagle.

Symbolism: The blue and white colors represent the waters of the Möhnesee reservoir. The black cross in the upper field represents the historic rule of the Electorate of Cologne (Kurköln). The white eagle in the lower blue field is derived from the coat of arms of the Counts of Arnsberg, the former rulers of the region. The wavy partition line symbolizes the Möhne river and the dam.
