Summary

Mykolaiv is a city situated in the Stryi Raion of the Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine. Founded in 1570 by the Polish nobleman Mikołaj Tarło, it was granted Magdeburg town rights by King Sigismund II Augustus. The city is often referred to as Mykolaiv on Dniester to distinguish it from larger cities.
