Summary

About the place: Navegantes is a coastal city and port municipality located in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. Situated at the mouth of the Itajaí-Açu River, it is known for its major port terminal, international airport, and long sandy beaches.

Flag Description: The flag consists of two horizontal bands of white at the top and dark blue at the bottom, overlaid by a large yellow lozenge extending to the edges of the flag. In the center of the lozenge is the municipal coat of arms. The shield is surmounted by a golden mural crown. The upper half of the shield is party per pale: the left (heraldic dexter) white field displays a yellow cross, while the right (heraldic sinister) blue field shows a white anchor entwined with a yellow rope. The lower light blue field depicts a sailing ship on ocean waves with an airplane flying to its left. Below the shield is a black scroll with the yellow inscriptions 'Sta. Catarina', 'NAVEGANTES', and the date '26-8 1962'.

Symbolism: The white and blue colors symbolize purity and the ocean, while the yellow lozenge mirrors the national pattern and colors of Brazil. Within the coat of arms, the cross represents faith, the anchor and sailing vessel highlight the municipality's maritime heritage and busy port, and the airplane marks its international airport. The ribbon bears the name of the state Santa Catarina, the city's name, and its founding date in 1962.
