Summary

About the place: Neustrelitz is a town in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, situated in the Mecklenburg Lake District on the shores of Lake Zierker. Founded in 1733, it served as the Baroque ducal residence of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Flag Description: The flag of the city consists of three horizontal stripes of red, yellow, and red, with the middle yellow stripe being wider than the two red outer stripes. In the center of the flag is the city's coat of arms, set within a cartouche-style shield with gold decorative scrollwork. The shield is per pale: in the dexter half (left from the viewer's perspective), on a red field, an armored/clad arm in silver emerges from the edge holding a gold diamond ring with a flowing silver ribbon; in the sinister half (right from the viewer's perspective), on a yellow field, a black bull's head with silver horns, a red protruding tongue, and a gold crown is displayed. The aspect ratio is 5:3.

Symbolism: The colors and symbols on the flag derive from the historical coat of arms of Neustrelitz. The crowned black bull's head represents the historic region of Mecklenburg. The arm holding a gold diamond ring with a ribbon symbolizes the Lordship of Stargard. The red and yellow stripes correspond to the traditional colors of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
