Summary

Łowicz is a town in central Poland’s Łódź Voivodeship, known for its Cathedral Basilica and the ruins of a former bishop’s castle. During the interregnum of the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth it acted as a temporary capital, and it was a focal point of the 1939 Battle of the Bzura River. The town also hosts a large open‑air ethnographic museum and lies near the Maurzyce Bridge, the world’s first welded road bridge.
