Summary
Panama City, founded on 15 August 1519 by Spanish conquistador Pedro Arias Dávila, sits at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal in Panama Province. It served as a launch point for the conquest of the Inca Empire and a major trans‑Atlantic trade hub for gold and silver. After being destroyed by Henry Morgan in 1671, the city was rebuilt in 1673 and today functions as Panama’s political and commercial centre.
