Summary
Parnaíba is a city in the Brazilian state of Piauí, and the second most populous in the state. Historically, it rivaled the former capital Oeiras in importance, gaining recognition even in Europe. Founded in 1699 by Leonardo de Sá, the city developed significantly from 1761 onwards.
