Summary
Passo Fundo is a municipality in the northern part of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and the state's tenth‑largest city. Founded on 7 August 1857 after emancipation by provincial law, it grew around the Passo Fundo River, a historic ford used by 18th‑century muleteers. The city is culturally noted for the singer Teixeirinha, who celebrated it in several popular songs.
