Summary

Pavlohrad is a city in eastern Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, situated on the Vovcha River near the Samara basin. First mentioned in 17th‑century documents, it received city status in 1784 after being renamed from Matviivka under the Yekaterinoslav Viceroyalty. Its layout was approved by Emperor Nicholas I in 1831 based on a plan by Scottish architect W. Geste.
