Summary
Petrópolis is a municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located 68 kilometers northeast of Rio de Janeiro city. It served as the summer residence for Brazilian Emperors in the 19th century, notably Pedro II, who is entombed at the Cathedral of Saint Peter of Alcantara. The city was also the state capital of Rio de Janeiro between 1894 and 1902.
