Pointe-Noire is the second largest city in the Republic of the Congo, situated on a headland between Pointe-Noire Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Founded in 1883 after a treaty with the Kingdom of Loango, it became a key port city. It serves as the main economic centre of the country and is divided into six urban boroughs.
