Summary

Portoviejo, also known as San Gregorio de Portoviejo, is a city in Ecuador and the capital of Manabí Province. Founded in 1535 by Francisco Pacheco, it was relocated inland in 1628 due to indigenous attacks. In 2019, UNESCO recognized Portoviejo as part of the Creative Cities Network for its gastronomy.
