Summary
Puerto Gaitán is a town and municipality located in the Meta Department of Colombia. Founded in 1932 by Venezuelan merchants, it initially served as a transit point between Puerto Carreño and Villavicencio. The town was named in honor of liberal leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitán in 1969.
