Puntarenas is a city located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, serving as the capital of the Puntarenas Province. Its name originates from the Spanish words 'punta' and 'arenas', meaning 'point' and 'sands'. The city's development significantly grew with the expansion of coffee production in the 19th century.
