Summary
Rhenen is a municipality and city in the central Netherlands, situated on the Utrecht Hill Ridge near the Rhine. It received city rights between 1256-1258 and was fortified in 1346 due to its proximity to Guelders. The town was damaged during both the 1940 German invasion and the 1945 liberation.
